(Black : Fox : 1968 - 1977)This black automotive paint color is most commonly known as simply 'Black'. Another common paint color promotional name is Jewel Black. The color formulation has been used between 1968 and 1977, primarily by Fox; but also by Cadillac, Chrysler and GM. See the full detailed list below. The use of this paint is for interior and main body color. Many interior paints where semi-gloss or flat versions of exterior colors. Lower gloss finishes could be created by adding a half ounce of Flattening Compound to a pint of the unreduced color. An unpolished version of the paint generally produced a semi-gloss finish for repair.
168Y42 is a paint code for Rinshed-Mason Company who has been providing automotive paints since 1948. BASF bought the company in the 1960s.
