Ford paint manufacturing codes come in two forms, the short 1 to 3 digit model/year code which changes frequently and a longer code which does not change. Ford paint codes starting in "14" was primarily used in the 1940's and early 50's. Many times this code has an "M" in the beginning (M14272 or M-14272). Later, when the M-code was consistently used by Ford, the first "1" was dropped which could make this code M4272; but one has to be careful since Ford started to use M-codes in the 4000's range during the 1980s. Paint usage is hard to map to other years with this code, it is better to use the PPG/Ditzler/Dupont/etc. code.
