(Van Winkle Gray : Pontiac : 1928 - 1930)
This gray automotive paint color is most commonly known as Van Winkle Gray. Another common paint color promotional name is Falmouth Gray. The color formulation has been used between 1928 and 1930, primarily by Pontiac; but also by Chevrolet. See the full detailed list below. The use of this paint is for main body and trim color.

Dupont codes starting with "244-" or "246-" and ending with a 4 or 5 digit number where used from 1920 through the 50's with a few "93-", "202-", and "210" prefixed codes thrown in early on. "93-" paint codes appear to be reserved for Truck/Fleet or very popular paints while the "202-" and "210" where metallic paints. Both "244-" and "246-" where non-metallic body or trim paints with the "244" prefix being more rare and may have been alternative paints to the "246-" prefix. As new paint types came out more prefixes were introduced. For this report on Dupont code 244-1287, we have included variations with the prefix removed. In most cases this is okay; meaning, the main code is unique. The remaining digits are a good way to track paint usage between years.

Be careful with Dupont 4 digit codes (i.e. 1287 or 01287 or 246-1287) before 1946. There may have been some reuse in later years.
